Botanica’s Evolution: From Cape Cod Roots to Industry Leadership

In 2018, R.P. Marzilli & Company acquired Botanica to expand their presence on Cape Cod and deepen their expertise in edible gardening. What began as a small fine gardening operation has since grown into one of the region’s leading voices in ecological land care.

By 2020, a renewed public interest in homesteading and growing food at home created an opportunity for Botanica to meet clients’ changing needs in a meaningful way. The team embraced this shift, helping families across New England reconnect with their land—and their food.

People see the value of having native spaces and edible spaces through their connection to the landscape and what that offers you. It brings people’s awareness to the potential they have at home—whether it’s mushrooms, a pollinator garden, or a sunny spot for vegetables.

As edible gardens became one of the most requested services, Botanica’s close collaboration with clients grew even more personal. In some cases, they worked directly with chefs to plan meals around what was growing on the property, deepening relationships in the process.

It’s one of the most intimate parts of landscaping—it brings us into their kitchens. We collaborate with the homeowner or their chef to meal plan with what we plant.

Today, Botanica is at the forefront of edible gardening and meadow management, educating landscape architects and clients alike on sustainable, ecological design. From planning to harvesting, the Botanica team continues to help people imagine what’s possible—right in their own backyards.
